History

In March 2020, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra trust started the first stage of the Ram Temple’s construction. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath witnessed the temporary relocation of Ram’s idol on March 25, 2020.

Lord Rama, a well-known Vishnu avatar, is said to have been born in Ayodhya, also spelled Ayodhi. Since Rama is a highly revered deity in India, it stands to reason that his birthplace is highly sacrosanct. One of the seven sacred sites in our country known as the Sapta Puri, or the Mukthi Kshetrams, is Ayodhya. It is said that these sites can deliver a person from the never-ending cycle of birth and death and lead to salvation. Situated in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, on the banks of the Sarayu river, lies the town of Ayodhya, which was formerly the capital city of Rama. It is called Ayodhi in Tamil, or Thiru Ayodhi with deference.

Presently a grand temple is being built for Lord Rama at Ramjanmabhoomi in Ayodhya, where Lord Rama was believed to have been born.

Plannings

In addition to allowing for the construction of a Ram temple at the disputed site, the Supreme Court’s November 2019 ruling in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case also mandated the identification of a different plot of land for the construction of a new mosque.

Festivals at Temples

Here, during the month of Chaitra (March–April), people commemorate Rama Navami, the day that Rama arrived on Earth, with a great deal of fervor and devotion. Here, other festivities are also joyfully celebrated.
